About Us

The Founders
Distinction Tutorial School was founded in December 1993 by Ms. Aletheia Chan who holds a Master's degree in Educational Studies (Sheffield University, UK), a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a Diploma in Education from the National University of Singapore. She taught "O" and "A" level subjects in both New Town Secondary School and the Townsville Institute.

She is partnered by her husband, Mr. Low Tong Chia, who has a bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil) and a Diploma in Education from the National University of Singapore. He was a former Head of Department and taught Mathematics and Physics at the "O" and "A" levels at Gan Eng Seng School (previously with pre-university classes).

The Teachers
All our teachers are graduates of reputable local or foreign universities. They are either full-time tutors, current or former school teachers or  university lecturers who are passionate about teaching and learning .

Our Philosophy
We respect the uniqueness of each student and believe that he/she should be equipped with knowledge and critical thinking skills. We aim to challenge each one to attain greater heights in a warm, supportive and welcoming environment.

Enrolment & Class Size
Since its inception in December 1993, thousands of students had enrolled in Distinction. Many had since graduated from both local and foreign universities and a sizeable number are holders of prestigious scholarships.

Class size is capped at the  maximum of fifteen students (may be fewer depending on classroom capacity
